Alice Yarrison Rowe of 2428 State Route 392, Cortland, NY, passed away from Cardio Pulmonary failure on September 12,2023 after a short stay at Guthrie Cortland ICU.,
Alice was born November 30, 1924 in Loganton, PA, at the home of her parents, Charles and Nettie Schrack Yarrison, the seventh of their thirteen children. Alice lived through the hardships of the Great Depression, worked at Piper Aircraft during WW II, and, in 1947, met Burton Rowe at Leonard’s Coffee Shop in Homer, NY, where she worked as a waitress. They were wed at Homer Methodist Church July 9, 1949. Burton built Alice a “Nice” house, (per her request) which was completed in 1954 where she resided until the time of her death.
Alice is survived by three sisters, Katherine Stiver of Bellefonte, PA, Mildred (Millie) McDuffee of Moravia, NY, and Harriet Beiter of Pittsford, NY, her daughters, Jeanie Phillips of Marathon, NY, and Gail Rowe of Cortland, NY, as well as 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great, great granddaughters and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She is predeceased by her husband, Burton, her son, David, one granddaughter and two great grandsons, as well as many of her extended family.
Alice is remembered for her vibrant personality, her kind and giving nature, love of life-long learning and exceptional home crafting and gardening skills.
An open memorial service will be held at 2428 State Route 392, Cortland (Virgil township) September 24, 1-2 p.m. followed by food and memories from 2 -5.
Donations in her name may be made to the American Heart Association or AARP Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
