Arthur Burton Weaver

Arthur Burton Weaver, 85, passed away at the Groton Community Health Care Center on August 22, 2023. He was born in Potsdam, NY on July 6, 1938 to Bettie Jane Cobane and Carl Weaver.

Art was a graduate of Potsdam High School and he married Carol Kent on July 11, 1959. They lived in Potsdam where he worked at the Parishville Paper Mill until relocating to Ithaca in 1967. After moving to Ithaca Art worked many jobs before going to Cornell University to become a groundskeeper. He loved working outdoors and planting vegetable gardens as well as flowers.

He enjoyed camping in the summers and would pack the family up to go to the local Robert Treman State Park.  He would go to work while we stayed at camp and got to swim and enjoy being out of the city of Ithaca. Art never forgot where he was from and would go back to Potsdam as often as he could.

Art is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Carol (Robert) Stone, Terry (Tony) Cain, Robin (Waheed) Ojedokun and Rebecca Rice; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Anita (Angelo), Cindy, Wendy (Seth) and Lisa (Brian), Nancy (Andy), Sandra, Sue (Dave), Shirley (Marty), Lisa (Waylon); brother, Doug (Bonnie); and brother in law, Rodger.

On November 14, 2011 Art lost his wife of 51 years, Carol.  They had 5 children together and lost their son, Arthur B Weaver, Jr. at the age of 2. In addition he was predeceased by his mother, Bettie and stepfather, Dolph; father, Carl and step mother, Jean; sister, Molly; brother, Carl and sister in law, Judy; as well as others who meant the world to him.
