Betsey Van Sickle

On October 4, 2023, Betsey Van Sickle passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side
after a prolonged illness. Betsey was born in Ithaca, NY on March 2, 1941. She was predeceased by
her mother, Genevieve Frederica Wood Van Sickle, her father, Charles Kenneth (Kenny) Van Sickle, and
her brother, Peter Wood Van Sickle. She is survived by her nieces, Megan (Jason) De Haas and Jessica
Van Sickle, as well as her great-nephews, Leif and Isaac De Haas. Betsey graduated from Dryden High
School in 1959 and from Syracuse University in 1963 with a BS in Office Administration and Finance.
She spent the bulk of her career working as an administrative assistant at Cornell University, a job she
loved well. She was an avid history buff, and loved animals and traveling in equal measure. She spent
twenty years riding horses at the Cornell Equestrian Center. She was a member of Dryden Kiwanis, The
Dryden Town Historical Society and The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden. Betsey cared deeply for
her friends and family and will be missed by all. A service and burial will be announced at a later date,
and any donations can be made in her memory to the Tompkins County SPCA.
