Elaine J. (Crispell) Genung

Elaine J. Genung, 93 of Slaterville Springs, NY passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023. Born November 30, 1929 in Caroline, NY she was the daughter of the late Laura Armstrong and Ellsworth Crispell. She married Wilbur H. Genung on Christmas Eve 1947, they were married 46 ½  years prior to his passing. They lived in the Ellis Hollow area of Ithaca for 43 years, where they raised their five children and their home was always open to many more that she baby sat and cared for. She worked at the 5&10 stores in her teen years. After marriage, she worked at Smith Corona, National Cash and was a lab technician for Dairy Herd Improvement. She also was a cook and waitress at several restaurants until becoming disabled with arthritis. In her later years, she was a caregiver. Elaine loved dancing and country music and was a member of the Church of Christ. She volunteered for RSVP and Caroline Food Net. She was a life member of the Slaterville Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. engaging in Fire Police and was on the ambulance crew in the early seventies. She held offices in the Auxiliary for 17 years until April 2009 and was very active until suffering a stroke in May 2008. She also served on the board of Caroline Senior Housing and was a member of Caroline Seniors. She lived in Richford, NY from 1989 to 2004 caring for her late husband while being a cancer survivor herself. Following his death she moved to Fountain Manor Senior Housing in 2004.

Elaine is survived  by her children, Linda Weaver of Ithaca, NY, Janet & Steve Nash of Brooktondale, NY, Nancy Genung of Jamestown, NY, William H. Genung of Richford, NY and Kathy & Mike Olsefski of Brooktondale, NY; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter that she loved and enjoyed immensely. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur “Bud” Genung; grandson, William Genung and granddaughter, Capri Genung; and her sisters, brothers and their spouses.  

Family and friends are invited to call from 11 am until 1 pm on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY followed by a graveside service at Caroline Grove Cemetery with Pastor Ben Hogben officiating. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Caroline Grove Cemetery or Slaterville Fire Company.
