Glenn Canfield Obituary

Glenn Canfield, 72, ran his final lap on March 27, 2024.  Born on October 3, 1951 to the late Claude and Lucia (Hoagland) Canfield, Glenn was raised in Richford, NY, and graduated from Marathon Central School in 1969. He went on to graduate from SUNY Morrisville to become a Master Mechanic, working for several different shops in the area.  He was the proudest of his work at Brockway, bolting cabs on trucks, including the McLean firetruck.

Throughout his life, Glenn enjoyed bowling, building model cars, snowmobiling, collecting anything racing related, telling jokes and oh so many stories, sometimes twice. Flea markets and a good collectors fest always put a smile on his face. After all, "you never know what you're going to find." He loved watching comedies, Ridiculousness marathons, reruns of M*A*S*H and secretly enjoyed the Hallmark Channel.

In 1967 he met the love of his life, Bonnie, at his 16th birthday party. She was the best birthday gift he ever received. They were married in 1971 and celebrated 52 years of wedded bliss last July.

Glenn and Bonnie were blessed with two sons and eventually moved from Dryden to Richford in 1981. They set up their homestead, with a garage bigger than the house. There he taught his children how to work hard, love fiercely and that "the more ya make, the more ya spend." They in turn helped him save money on haircuts, causing him good humored grief, prompting his baldness.

He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending sporting events and concerts, driving them in his boat, and teaching them about car repairs and lawn care. They spent countless hours watching racing together, either live or on TV, making cherished memories the whole time.

After Bonnie and their family, Glenn's greatest love was racing. He ran the gamut from spectator to crew member, race official, and cheerleader. In recent years he helped his sons and grandsons with their photography ventures. He made friends at every track he went to, and many that became as close as family.

In addition to his parents, Glenn was predeceased by his brother, Donald Canfield. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, sons Duane (Stephanie) and Daryl (Amy), grandchildren Evan (Erika), Bradley (Marlena), Derrick (Brooke), Brittany (Nick), great-granddaughters Hailey, Kendyl, Rowan, Hannah and Elysia, sister-in-law Donna Canfield and several nieces and nephews.
