John Garner Obituary

John Norman Garner, 84 of Dryden, NY passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at his home.

Born April 30, 1936 in Georgetown, NY he was the son of the late Claude D. and Olive A. Knapp Garner. He was graduated from Homer Central School in 1954 where he played Soccer, Basketball and Baseball. After high school, he went on to the Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY where he received his Bachelors degree in Religious Education in 1961.

John faithfully taught the Word of God for 30 years. He started at Bevier Regular Baptist Church in Johnson City, NY from 1961-1964, then on to Bible Baptist Church in West Springfield, Mass. from 1964-1968.  In 1968 he began his ministry at Brooktondale Baptist Church. He participated in building the new church and classrooms as the congregation grew. He also helped start and run a Christian Day School Program. John is a big Dodgers fan.

Predeceased by his parents, brother, Robert (Alice) Garner; sisters, Bessie Garner, June Garner, Ruth (Keith) Garner Rofe; John is survived by his loving wife, Ann M. Garner; son, Andrew J. (Melanie) Garner; daughter, Dianne M. Garner; grandson, David J. Garner; brother, Claude D. (Mary) Garner; sister, Charlotte Turk and additional family members, Paul (Liz) French, Julie McConnell Garner and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, October 18, 2020 in the Dryden Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Miller officiating.  Private burial will be in Harford Mills Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dryden Baptist Church or Dryden Ambulance Fund.
