Kitty Marie (Quaile) Saam

Kitty Saam passed away peacefully and suddenly at age 76, while playing cards which was one of her favorite pastimes. Kitty was born in Cortland, NY.  Kitty was the oldest daughter of John Ivan and Katherine Quaile. She attended Groton Central School. Kitty lived with  Bill Saam, her husband of 47 years and her beloved dog, “Peanut” in Freeville, NY.  Kitty is survived by her daughter Linda Lea Halme King and son David Charles Halme (Martine), 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Grandchildren are listed in birth order with their children:  Johanna Harvey (Andrew) - Ahlexis, Kobe & Kirsten Tetreault. Jamie Otis Hehner (Douglas) - Henley & Hendrix. Amylynn Lucas (Nathan) - Natalynn & Jayme. Leah King (Adam Standish) -Matthew, Rylin & Trevor.  Kitty’s only grandson, Dale King Jr.  

Kitty is also survived by 7 siblings:  Cynthia Quaile, Charles “Bill” Quaile, Joanne Monroe (Ed), Candice “Candy” Perrine (David), Constance “Connie” Mantey (Squeak), Thomas “Tom” Quaile, Charmaine “Char” Dean and many nieces and nephews. Kitty was predeceased by both of her parents, John Ivan and Katherine Rose, and brothers Robert “Bobby” Quaile and Richard “Dicky” Quaile.

Kitty enjoyed the simple things that gave her a lot of pleasure, such as spending time with family and friends, playing games and cards, crocheting, traveling and “girls days” with her sisters and nieces. Kitty was a practical joker playing many jokes and pranks on friends and family. Kitty had a heart of gold and showed it by bringing so much joy to so many. Kitty spent many years working as a childcare provider and loved watching the children grow up and have families of their own.  Kitty also worked in various businesses in the area including Dandy Mini-Mart in McClean, NY, Freeville Elementary School, Lou’s Carry Out in Groton, NY, Cornell University Cafeteria and many others. Kitty will be forever in our hearts, memories and prayers- until we meet again. 

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY.  A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. A Celebration of Kitty's Life will be held from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Cortland Country Music Park.
