Leslie Wright Obituary

Leslie Warfield Wright, age 89, of Homer, New York passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at home with her family at her side.

Born May 16, 1930 in Southampton, Long Island, New York, she was the daughter of the late Leslie James and Justine Edwards Warfield. Leslie was a 1951 graduate of Cornell University with a BS in Home Economics. On June 16, 1951 she married Eugene Ernest Wright at Westhampton Beach, Long Island and they moved to Homer, NY. Leslie was very proud that after her last two children were born, she started giving blood and through the years has donated 15 gallons to the Red Cross. She has been a member of the Homer Congregational Church United Church of Christ for 68 years. In 1980 Leslie proved that you can do anything you choose to do by graduating from TC3 with an Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology. Then in the 1990’s she used all she had learned and was on the CAPCO, the Town of Homer Zoning Board of Appeals and the Committee to form a Comprehensive Plan for the Town of Homer. Through the years, she was a member of many associations and held many volunteer positions, which she did well and faithfully. She was a Hospice Visitor, Hospital Volunteer Spiritual Visitor and volunteered with many other organizations and was always willing to help out a neighbor.

Leslie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Eugene Wright at home; sister, Anne Yellott; her children, William (Mary) Wright, Edward (Barb Sherwood) Wright, Peter (Barb) Wright, Thomas (Kathy Raine) Wright, Betty Anne Wright, Marion (Joseph) Dabroski, Phyllis (John) Jackson and Alfred Wright; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

It was Leslie’s wish to have a private Green Burial at the Willow Glen Cemetery in Dryden, New York. A public Celebration of her Life will take place at a later date.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in her memory, to Cortland Loaves and Fishes or Homer Methodist Church Food Pantry. Perkins Funeral Home of Dryden, New York is assisting the family.
