Maria (Korn) Unterreiner

Maria Unterreiner, age 93, passed away on November 29, 2020.  Maria was born in Rain, Germany on May 13, 1927.  Maria grew up in Germany with her parents Jakob and Maria Korn; 2 sisters, Wallie and Mina and her grandmother.  She married Josef Unterreiner in1947 (2013).  In 1953 Maria, Josef and their only child, Heidi (Palumbo 2001) immigrated to New York City.  Immediately following their arrival they become U.S. Citizens.  Maria and Josef resided and worked in New York City until they retired in 1986 and moved to Dryden, NY to be closer to Heidi and her family.  In retirement Maria was involved with her church, Holy Cross Parish, various quilting groups and enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, spending time with her family, and playing cards and golf with friends.  She was loving and devoted to her family and friends and will be missed greatly.  She is survived by her sister, Mina and other family members in Germany; her grandson, Marc Palumbo and his wife, Jennifer, her great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Madelyn and son in-law, Tony Palumbo.

A private family Mass at Holy Cross Church and burial in Willow Glen Cemetery will take place on December 5, 2020.  In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY  13204. Online condolences at www.perkinsfh.com
