Nitamae (Nita) Goslee

Long time Cortland resident, Nitamae "Nita" Goslee, passed away on June 16th, 2022 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center at the age of 94. 

Nita was predeceased by the love her life, husband Preston "Pret" Goslee. She is survived by her children: Linda and Patrice; son in law Rien (Linda}; grandson Matt (Linda); and her beloved cat Koby.

Nita was known for her feisty independent attitude, her love for the outdoors, travel, shopping, reading, jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed going out for lunch, dinner, chili dogs or pie with friends. Nita became an avid sailor and downhill skier. She also rode a moped, took golf lessons, skied in Europe, traveled down the Grand Canyon on a raft, hiked in Hawaii and many more adventures, all after the age of 40. Nita continued to ski at the Greek Peak Ski Resort until she was 90 years old. Nita’s favorite vacation was to Hampton Beach, NH every year with her family. Nita would sit on the beach in the sun looking at the waves, taking walks, reading a book, visiting with friends and playing cribbage all day. She loved that her daughter Linda made tasty dinners every night.

Nita’s career path also had a wandering spirit. She worked as a real estate agent at Murray Real Estate, a Secretary and Receptionist at the YWCA Cortland and an Assistant to the Librarian in the periodicals department at SUNY Cortland. She enjoyed every job which allowed her to meet new people and make lifelong friendships. After retiring, Nita was involved with many volunteer groups in the Cortland County Region: most notably RSVP and Lime Hollow Nature Center. In her later years Nita attended church services and Bible study classes at the Homer Ave. United Methodist Church in Cortland. The last six months of her life Nita lived in the Elizabeth Brewster House in Homer, NY where she enjoyed meals that she didn’t have to make and became a “shark” at Bingo. 

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Homer Avenue United Methodist Church of Cortland on Saturday, August 6th, 2022. Calling hour will be at the church from 10 - 11am. Service to follow at 11:15am. The Celebration of Life Service will be live streamed on Zoom.Meeting ID:908 693 1452 Password: 338962.
