Rexford Sager Obituary

Rexford L. Sager of Cortland, NY passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse, NY from complications of a stroke suffered on December 21, 2021.  He was born on August 14, 1953 in Cortland, NY, the son of Lewis “Bud” G. Sager Jr. and Dorothy “Reba” Diamond Sager.

Rex graduated from Marathon Central School in 1971, SUNY at Morrisville in 1973 with a degree in Accounting and from Tompkins Cortland Community College in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration. He was employed at TC3 for over 28 years, retiring in 2008 as their Senior Payroll Account Clerk. He was previously employed at the First National Bank of Cortland and at Smith Corona.

Rex was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys and Milwaukee Bucks.  He was an active participant in fantasy football for many years.  He was a member of the Harmony Methodist Church of Harford, NY where he served as treasurer in the past.

Rex was a kind and loving son, brother and uncle.  He will be remembered for his love of family and life, his sense of humor and his kind and generous nature.

Rex is survived by his mother Reba Sager of Cortland, NY; his brother Roger Sager of Homer, NY and Roger’s two children: daughter Kristen Sager Cincotta (husband Mike, son Dashiell) of Atlanta, GA and son Daniel Sager of Homer, NY; and his sister Dottie Slocum (husband Bob) of Dryden, NY and her three children: son Benjamin Highfield of Truckee, CA, daughter Kate White (husband Rob) of Harford, NY and their two children, Jackson White (Jenna Knout) of Cincinnatus, NY and Liam White, and son Bradley Highfield (wife Sofia, daughter Ariya) of Brooklyn, NY.  He is also survived by an uncle, several aunts, cousins and their families.  Rex was predeceased by his father, Lewis “Bud” Sager, Jr. and sister-in-law, Karen L. Sager.

Rex’s family will be present on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY for calling hours with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be at the Parker Street Cemetery, Lapeer, NY immediately following the service. The Rev. Stephanie Brown officiating.
