Sally Stevens Obituary

Sally I. Stevens, age 88 of Marathon, NY passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  Born May 23, 1932 in Virgil, NY she was the daughter of the late Harold and Inez Hollenbeck. Sally was a 1951 graduate of Virgil Central School and she worked alongside her parents at the family business, Hollenbeck’s Cider Mill. She worked at Greek Peak in the office when it first opened in 1958. She later worked in the Cortland County Treasurer’s Office until the late 70’s when she then went to Board of Elections Office before retiring in 1987.  Sally was a member of the Virgil Methodist Church, FMCA and Virgil Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, RVing and spending the winters at their home in Florida.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 68 years Francis “Steve” Stevens; brother, Carl Hollenbeck and in-laws, Charles and Ruth Stevens.

Sally is survived by daughters, Cynthia (Rick) Warfield and Cathleen (Gary) Cornell all of Marathon; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brother, Bruce (Janet) Hollenbeck; sister in law, Betty (Larry) Hills; brother in laws, Ray (Terry) Stevens, Ralph (Joann) Stevens and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all who provided care for Sally at home and at Cortland Park Rehab and Nursing Center, for the excellent care and compassion during the COVID crisis.

There will be no calling hours. There will be a graveside service at the Virgil Rural Cemetery for both Sally and her husband, Francis on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 1 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Virgil Methodist Church or a charity of one’s choice.
