William S. (Bill) Mix

William S. Mix of Dryden passed away on Thursday March 2nd of 2023 at the age of 82. He was the son of the late Laurance and Hazel Mix. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Erin B. Mix, their children Kimberly Mix of Michigan, Shannon (Stephen) Speas of North Carolina, and Terry (Laura) Clary of Pennsylvania. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Samuel Speas, Alexa Speas, Savannah Mix, and Leno Clary. Also, his sister Geri (Bill) Boyce, sisters-in-law Karen Bulger, Connie Bulger, Carmen Mix and many nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by his brothers Larry and Bob Mix, son-in-law Micheal Gruskin, and granddaughter Brittney Speas.

Bill will be greatly missed by many, foremost his family, who always came first in his life. Bill was a lifelong outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, especially in later years with his son and grandson. He touched many lives with his amazing generosity and was always willing to lend a helping hand whether clearing snow from a neighbors driveway, to colluding with the wait staff to pay the tab at dinner. A true handyman, he could fix just about anything he was presented with. Always thinking of the people in his life, he rarely returned home from a shopping trip without a treat for everyone, especially his grandchildren. He made sure his family knew how important they were to him every chance he had. Bill loved making people laugh, and spread joy to the people around him through his jokes and lighthearted pranks. He had the ability to bring levity to otherwise dour circumstances. He always faced life’s problems head-on.

Bill’s career spanned from being an Ithaca policeman and culminated into a Canadian-Pacific Railroad engineer for over 30 years. He spent his retirement doing the things he loved; traveling to Maine in the summer with his wife,  to Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania to visit his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed having his grandchildren spend their summer vacations with him and their grandmother. Bill would frequently take his grandchildren to do fun activities such as camping, going to the lake to go boating, swimming, and fishing.

A celebration of life for William S. Mix will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 2-4 pm at Caroline Center Church, 719 Buffalo Road, Brooktondale, NY. Dress is casual, bring your stories and memories to share with family and friends.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Caroline Center Church.
